Detailed Curriculum

1. English

  • Focus: Balancing Language and Literature to cultivate articulate, analytical communicators.
  • Skills include:
    • Exploring advanced spelling conventions, morphology, and etymology
    • Identifying themes, analysing characters, and interpreting authorial intent
    • Inferring characters’ emotions and justifying opinions using evidence
    • Summarising key ideas and retrieving information from non-fiction
  • Activities:
    • Close reading of classic/contemporary fiction, myths, legends, and poetry
    • Rehearsing and performing poetry and plays to nurture dramatic interpretation
    • Participating thoughtfully in collaborative discussions and debates

2. Science

    • Understanding multiplicative relationships and factorisation
    • Integrating fractions/decimals and demonstrating competence in unit conversion
  • Activities:
    • Solving multi-step problems with accuracy and justification
    • Calculating perimeter and area, and interpreting analogue/digital time
    • Classifying shapes, analysing angles/symmetry, and using coordinate geometry
    • Interpreting and constructing graphical representations

4. Social Studies

  • Focus: Deepening historical and geographical understanding alongside Moral, Social and Cultural Studies (MSCS).
  • Skills include:
    • Understanding symbols, grid references (4–6 figure), and compass directions
    • Comparing historical periods and identifying patterns of change over time
    • Collecting and recording data to understand land use and settlement patterns
  • Activities:
    • Exploring significant ancient civilisations (Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece)
    • Engaging in simple investigations of the local environment
    • Exploring human/physical geography concepts like trade, climate, and environmental change

5. French

  • Focus: Developing confidence in practical communication, spoken and written French.
  • Skills include:
    • Understanding sentence formation, verb awareness, and noun-adjective agreement
    • Strengthening phonological awareness, intonation, and listening accuracy
    • Expressing ideas, facts, preferences, and simple opinions
  • Activities:
    • Describing people, places, everyday routines, and familiar experiences
    • Constructing short paragraphs using familiar language patterns
    • Reinforcing listening and speaking through role-play and guided conversations
