Curriculum Intent

We provide a carefully balanced, engaging, and challenging curriculum that builds on primary foundations. Detailed Curriculum

1. English

  • Focus: Strengthening reading, writing, communication, and analytical skills while encouraging creativity and independent thinking.
  • Skills include:
    • Identifying themes and analyzing characters in various texts.
    • Exploring language techniques and understanding authorial influence.
    • Developing personal responses to texts with critical thinking.
    • Applying accurate grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
    • Communicating confidently through presentations and group discussions.
  • Activities & Topics:
    • Study of novels, poetry, drama, myths, legends, and Shakespeare.
    • Creative storytelling, descriptive writing, and persuasive arguments.
    • Debates, drama performances, and thematic studies (e.g., nature, heroes and villains).

2. Mathematics

  • Focus: Extending mathematical understanding while promoting confidence, fluency, and logical reasoning in abstract and real-life contexts.
  • Skills include:
    • Applying mental and written calculation strategies accurately.
    • Using symbols and expressions to represent mathematical relationships.
    • Solving increasingly complex equations and generating sequences.
    • Collecting, interpreting, and presenting data to make informed predictions.
    • Justifying reasoning and constructing logical arguments using proper vocabulary.
  • Activities & Topics:
    • Number operations (integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, roots, ratios).
    • Algebra (simplifying expressions, substituting values).
    • Geometry (angles, shapes, coordinates, transformations, constructions).
    • Measurement (perimeter, area, volume) and Statistics (graphs, charts, probability).

3. Science

  • Focus: Inspiring curiosity and developing a strong understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics through engaging, practical scientific enquiry.
  • Skills include:
    • Safely utilizing laboratory equipment for practical experiments.
    • Recording observations accurately and analyzing results.
    • Evaluating evidence using scientific reasoning and problem-solving.
    • Working scientifically to explain real-world phenomena.
  • Activities & Topics:
    • Biology: Cells, body systems, nutrition, variation, and ecosystems.
    • Chemistry: Particle model, elements, compounds, mixtures, and acids/alkalis.
    • Physics: Energy, forces, sound, light, motion, and space science.
    • Hands-on activities (e.g., using microscopes, separating mixtures, measuring speed).

4. Social Studies

  • Focus: Introducing the study of people, societies, history, and the environment to develop informed, responsible, and culturally aware global citizens.
  • Skills include:
    • Applying critical thinking and research skills to global and local issues.
    • Understanding how historical events shape modern society.
    • Building awareness of social, ethical, and environmental issues.

5. French

  • Focus: Introducing the fundamentals of the French language through engaging, practical communication and building confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Skills include:
    • Communicating using everyday vocabulary and simple sentence structures.
    • Developing accurate pronunciation and grammatical understanding.
    • Applying regular and common irregular verbs (être, avoir, aller) correctly.
    • Understanding gendered nouns, plurals, and adjective agreements.
