Curriculum Intent

Detailed Curriculum

1. English

  • Focus: Deepening language skills, fostering independence, and developing critical thinking in reading and writing.
  • Skills include:
    • Using advanced literacy concepts such as fronted adverbials
    • Identifying themes and conventions across a variety of texts
    • Organising writing effectively for different purposes and audiences
    • Strengthening grammatical accuracy, punctuation, spelling, and handwriting
  • Activities:
    • Thinking critically and making informed decisions in reading/writing tasks
    • Engaging in interactive learning experiences to nurture imagination
    • Exploring a broad range of reading and writing objectives

2. Science

4. Social Studies

  • Focus: Foundational understanding of geography and history, developing a clear sense of time, place, and environmental relationships.
  • Skills include:
    • Identifying UK countries, world continents, and oceans
    • Using maps, atlases, globes, and simple compass directions
    • Developing chronology by ordering events on timelines
    • Examining historical sources and building early research skills

    • Exploring early civilisations (Ancient Egypt, Indus Valley, Roman Empire)
    • Investigating human and physical geography through observational fieldwork

5. French

  • Focus: Building foundational language skills through engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate experiences.
  • Skills include:
    • Recognising, reading, and writing familiar French words with growing confidence
    • Understanding basic phonics, noun genders, and silent final consonants
    • Developing accurate pronunciation
  • Activities:
    • Participating in role-play, songs, and language games
    • Learning vocabulary for greetings, numbers, colours, days, months, and food items
    • Reading short phrases and simple stories to reinforce vocabulary in context
